Could The Best And Most Popular Fire Pit Really Be Made In Britain?

When it comes to garden products, or any products for that matter, I've been numb to the fact that most things are imported from abroad. This is a symptom of living in a developed economy with a historically strong currency, not because we're no good at making things anymore. To think that all our manufacturing heritage, dating back to the industrial revolution, is lying dormant is actually quite depressing. But there is hope, and that hope comes in the form of the British Forge Plain Jane Fire Pit, the elixir of British creativity

The British Forge Plain Jane Fire Pit Is Now GardenItems.co.uk's Biggest Selling Fire Pit

Since bringing the British Forge Plain Jane Fire Pit to market in January 2014, GardenItems.co.uk say that the sales of this British-made success have outstripped orders for all other models within their extensive range. Matt Smith, sales manager, said "The Plain Jane Fire Pit was an immediate success with our fire pit customers, achieving sales figures over double that of the historically most popular fire pit, the Urban Brazier. This isn't a statistical accident, either, because we're a leading internet retailer of fire pits, and to say that we sell lots of them would be something of an understatement"

Remarkably, the Plain Jane defeats its cheaper competition manufactured in the far-east, including the Urban Brazier mentioned by Matt Smith, which I have to admit is a handsome looking competitor. However, looking in detail at the description of the Plain Jane Fire Pit, it is quite obvious that GardenItems customers like the quality proposition

The British Forge Plain Jane Fire Pit Offers A Quality Proposition That The British Public See Value In

To begin with the Plain Jane has a fire bowl made from 3mm steel, which is 5 times that of the standard 0.6mm gauge most imported models are made from. Given that the fire bowl is the working part of any fire pit, it makes sense to assume that the product will last at least 5 times longer than its Chinese-imported counterparts. The steel used to construct the fire pit is also British, and this means something because the high production standards Welsh steel producers have to comply with are strict - can we say the same about far-eastern or Chinese steel? (I'm not answering that question for you). It seems then, that intuitively the British public are also reassured by the fact that the Plain Jane is made from British steel, and for good reason. But quality isn't just in the Plain Jane's build - it's in the design, too

The Plain Jane Isn't Just Well Built, It's Beautifully And Cleverly Designed

The Plain Jane Fire Pit certainly isn't plain. It has that type of understated style and refinement that only the British can produce. It's a product that says "I'm accomplished, but I don't like to shout about it - that would be showy and distasteful". Its design isn't just attractive, but clever, too. This is the only product I have seen that has the option of a "half moon" barbecue grill. This heavy duty grill (again, strictly made from British steel) sits across just one half of the fire bowl, allowing access to the embers underneath. This makes for much better control of the temperature the food cooks at by shifting, damping or stoking the wood as required. The Plain Jane, therefore, demonstrates both the superior design and build required to be the success it has rightfully become

The British Forge Plain Jane Fire Pit Could Easily Be The Best And Most Popular Fire Pit In Britain

I don't like to write in dogmatic terms, and of course this article is based in the experiences of just 1 retailer and their cocky sales manager, but purely by virtue of analysing the Plain Jane's quality, impressive design, and reasonable price point, I am not surprised by its success. Could the Plain Jane mark a renaissance in British manufacturing? Could the British creative soul be stirring once again? I sincerely hope so. Here's to you, Jane!
